settling sound

Above is from some installation that I found on the internet, I love it!

Santa Barbara seems to be finally feeling like home. It has been quite an adjustment, I suppose I should have expected no less after Alaska. I happily acknowledge that I have been productive. I completed a 4 channel electronic piece for my class with Curtis Roads. Today I got to work on the 8 channel piece for the same class and I am pretty excited about the project. Well I should be, this is the best part, the improvisation in the studio where I simply play with my ideas and with the instruments and see if I can some up with something interesting. That is what tomorrow is for.

Today I got an email from an old friend (those are the best kind) Jason Fruit. He, as he aptly said on my website, is my former roommate and accompaniment. It was great to hear from him and know that he is still kicking and Ethnomusicology at that!

Finally, I have been hard at work on a solo violin piece for Christa Graf, a good friend from the summer at Fontainebleau and that has just got to the point where it is starting to take shape and I can sense what that shape is. Now to etch it out and arrive at a sonic structure that change peoples lives. Now the trick is to get everything wrapped up in time for the end of the quarter.

Thanks to my friend Nick for turning me on to Birchville Cat Motel.

This is the picture of Jean Claude and Christo's non work... I think it looks like theirs and I just found it like that on the highway.

Chris,

glad to hear you're settling in alright in Santa Barbara. sounds like you've been so busy and productive. amazing.

it's been snowing a ton in Wrangell -- loads and loads. another med student just moved in about a week ago and, while i no longer live below, i knocked on the door and invited her to a housewarming pary this past weekend. she seems alright but certainly not as cool as you and christine.

am off to anchorage tomorrow. we're flying up, renting a car and driving to homer and then spending the weekend in anchorage. very excited. my first time out of southeast in a long time.

hope you and christine have a very happy thanksgiving. tell her i say hi,

~lisa
