Phasing Percussion
A picture from my mother, while she and my father were visiting Palo Alto for Christmas.
I have been experimenting with having several streams of percussion sounds out of phase. In this case it is three separate sounds and they are controlled by a single master tempo. I am beginning to like this work, which is an extension of some earlier phase experiments in SuperCollider. The patterns still feel a little predictable, but I am starting to find the sweet spot. It looks like these will be the last 2 things I put into my 2010 folder on my server. So goes 2010!

Bells
I have been making some sketches for a collaborative project with Jean-Pierre. My side of the idea is a world of sounds that respond to different time frames. The following are a set of bells that I made in SC and am rather taken with the sound of. This is an improvisation where I shift the amount of reverb and the tempo clock.
The picture has nothing to do with the project other than it is a place that I once was that had metal and skin objects for me to hit.

Ocean Granulation
I made a granulation tool that uses weather data for the sound files and control files. I have been experimenting with this granulator and have come up with this sketch of a piece. Who knows, it may be a finished piece. It is actually pretty close to the fabulous sound that a hurricane makes. And this is about as long as one of those blows would last. It would be more convincing if there were things flying about though,
