Yutaka Makino video
Here is a link to 2 videos of Yutaka giving his lecture on Systems. I saw this, along with Curtis, as he was preparing for his PhD proposal. Some interesting ideas on systems.
My take home from Makino is simply.. shut up and make.

"A landscape" -- good point, there is a lot we can perceive in a landscape that we can not perceive abstractly.

Absolute versus relative figures... This is a very important point.

glenn kotche - monkey chant
Monkey Chat
I was just listening to this and found the sections that use noise really interesting. I see a dichotomy between more traditional drumset material and then the extended techniques that create more noise material.
The stuff @ 7 minutes is pretty interesting, particularly when the high pitch becomes integrated with the rhythmic material at 7:30
The transition off the hi hat at 10:00 is effective.
There is a contrast of pitched and rhythmic material in the work and I think I would like more exploration of integration of those two.
The big buildup to the end has some pretty impressive drumming 13 to 14.
Biagio Marini
Just ran into the work of this 17th century violin virtuoso/composer and I really enjoy it. He played in Monteverdi's group at St. Marks and is known for innovative instrumental music.

Listening
I like the observation "broadcasting versus conversing," with the implication that we are not conversing and or listening to each other, we are broadcasting and we are broadcasting in soundbites.
Sound design, foreground, mid ground and background. A nice reduction.
12 cycles per second.... Vibrato is not mentioned, but it is often this frequency.

2013 production 1 and context
AUDIOcordian
The audio takes a moment to start (big fade in eh?). The audio is a SuperCollider program that I made today that uses a 1st order Markov chain to play the accordion. It is a rather simple 2 part texture with some processing to extend it and some real time mixing on my part of tuning and panning randomization. The higher part reminds me of Shepard tones. The tuning system is "overtone" tuning in Kontakt 4, which I think works rather well for the samples.
I was looking through some videos that my sister sent me of the little guys and thought this bit made a nice companion piece. So I learned how to make an animated GIF. Which the OED just made the "American Word of the Year." (2012 that is).
I was just reading about Earth Angles of Darkness, Demons of Light. I suppose that is why I spent the last couple hours making this GIF. The audio is from earlier today. I needed something to listen to while I packed the boat up. SO I knocked out the code and let it play for a few hours, tweaking occasionally as I saw fit.
